What Is PIR Insulation?

PIR (Polyisocyanurate) insulation boards are one of the most widely used thermal insulation solutions in construction. They offer:

  • High thermal efficiency
  • Lightweight, easy-to-handle design
  • Versatility for floors, walls, roofs, and cladding systems

Top brands include Kingspan, Celotex, Ecotherm, Recticel, Mannok, and Xtratherm – all offering consistent performance.

Does the PIR Insulation Brand Matter?

In most cases, performance is comparable across brands, especially with foil-faced PIR boards. All our PIR products include detailed specifications, Data Sheets on their respective product pages.

Why Is Foil Tape Important for PIR Insulation?

Foil tape is crucial for sealing joints between PIR boards. It:

  • Improves thermal efficiency
  • Prevents air leakage and moisture ingress
  • Ensures a continuous insulation layer

For optimal results, always apply foil tape to all board joints during installation.

Can You Split Kingspan PIR Packs?

No – Kingspan boards are only sold in full packs as supplied by the manufacturer. This ensures protection during transport and storage, preserving quality and preventing damage.

How Should Insulation Boards Be Stored?

To maintain performance, always store insulation boards flat, dry, and undercover in a weatherproof location.

  • Avoid exposing boards to moisture
  • Let slightly damp boards dry completely before use
  • Do not walk on boards – this can crush the foam core
